I've foster several greyhounds in the past few years for a group called New Jersey Greyhound Adoption Program. I decided to foster after my fur-son a yellow lab passed away. I vowed I would never get another dog I was so devastated. I'd always wanted to help with animal rescue so I contacted the group and got my first foster greyhound named Honkey Tonk. You can imagine how that sounded being called out in the neighborhood. Much to my surprise I fell in love with the greyhound breed. I learned that thousands are killed every year after they have raced their hearts out for humans. Some face a worse fate in being sold to a lab for experimentation. These dogs are so sweet and loving I can't imagine them suffering.
Today I picked up my 10th or 11th foster and her name is Tan. She is a sweet petite girl and as usual she fit right in with my three adopted greyhounds. They always welcome fosters and show them the ropes. I took Tan out for a walk today and it brought me back to how each of my fosters arrived. Walking with new eyes to every sight and sound. Unsure and yet brave to keep walking. It helped to have the leader of the pack Kit Kat along. Tan pretty much melted into my leg as I walked and then at times ventured out with Kit Kat. Tan will be available for adoption in a few weeks. If you are interested in Tan or would like to become a foster parent please contact NJGAP.
